Music and Visual Arts
Under the direction of our Orchestra Director, Mr. Thomas Duncan, all of our students take orchestra classes in which they learn to play a string instrument and read music. A special facet of our orchestra program includes an annual Spring Recital held in the magical setting of Balboa Park’s Spreckles Organ Pavilion. In visual arts classes taught by Mrs. Dyess, students learn the basics of art history, cultural representations through art, and the fundamentals of painting, drawing, and visual expression. They also participate in a variety of community events such as Artwalk and Global Villages throughout the year to showcase their developing artistic skills. Through KIPP Adelante’s music and visual arts program, some students have discovered their natural talent, and others have found a new passion.

BET Design Center (Business, Engineering, & Technology)
To ensure our students are adequately prepared to participate fully in a digital society, we offer a series of classes in business, engineering and technology taught by Mr. Chan. In the
BET program, students tackle project-based activities that uniquely integrate real world experiences with core content area subjects such as English Language Arts, math, and science. The cooperative learning environment provides opportunities for students to engage in problem-solving inquiry based activities that present financial and technological applications as a subject that everyone can learn.

For more information about the technology program, please visit the
BET website.
