Faculty Job Description

Academic Year 2006-07

 KIPP Adelante Preparatory Academy is seeking middle school faculty members in the areas of English Language Arts, Science, Mathematics, Spanish Language Arts, and History for our charter school in San Diego, CA. 

 The mission of KIPP Adelante Preparatory Academy is to ensure that our students develop the academic skills, intellectual habits, and character traits needed to succeed in top quality high schools, colleges, and the competitive world beyond.

 KIPP Adelante’s core values are:

In August 2003, KIPP Adelante opened its doors to 90 fifth-graders from the Logan Heights and surrounding areas of San Diego.  The school has expanded one grade level each year and will reach its full capacity of approximately 340 students in grades 5-8 in the 2006-07 school year. 

Faculty Job Description:

The responsibilities for KIPP Adelante faculty will be, although not limited to, as follows:

bullet

Teach standards-based, college preparatory curriculum in at least one core subject area (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, History, and/or Spanish Language Arts)

bullet

Provide quality, well-planned instruction that engages students

bullet

Teach and hold students accountable for the school’s culture and standards for behavior

bullet

Proactively manage student behavior with consistent school-wide system

bullet

Build quality relationships with students

bullet

Manage a homeroom and display student work in a high-quality way

bullet

Collaborate with other educators on Grade Level Team and Department Team

bullet

Participate in peer observation process

bullet

Participate actively in faculty and staff meetings

bullet

Participate actively in professional learning community activities, both on-site and off-site

bullet

Seek to constantly refine instructional techniques

bullet

Plan and travel with students on field lessons, both local and out-of-state

bullet

Field phone calls at night (during agreed upon hours) from students with emergencies or who need help with homework

bullet

Teach enrichment classes, according to own interests, on one Saturday per month

bullet

 Maintain consistent communication with students’ families

bullet

Make at least one home visit per year with each family

bullet

Perform morning, lunch, or afternoon duties as assigned

bullet

Fulfill all necessary administrative duties in a timely manner

bullet

Submit weekly lesson plans to the Principal

bullet

Meet monthly with Principal to provide student progress update and programmatic feedback

bullet

Commit to the teacher’s agreements in the Commitment to Excellence contract 

Experience:

An ideal candidate for KIPP Adelante’s faculty will possess:

A strong background in and command of content area

bullet

At least two years full-time teaching experience

bullet

Demonstrated success working with students in under-resourced communities

bullet

A California Teaching Credential, with BCLAD or CLAD emphasis, or equivalent

bullet

 Bilingual (Spanish) proficiency (preferred, but not required)
